Greetings all... I'm building yet another SETI box, this time using the classic Abit BX-133 Raid board. I'm hoping to use a PIII 1Gig processor but my question for all the knowledgeable folks out there is this: The BX-133 only has a 2/3 divider at 133FSB. Since I already have an Asus V7100 GeForce 2 MX, is this card up to the task of an 89Mhz AGP bus?
Is there another vid card I should consider if I'd like to have the 133Mhz bus or should I stick with an 850 PIII? I sure would love a Gig on that board for mashing SETI WU's and will consider the 850 if no other options are available. The box will be only used for SETI and the occasional business app. I've never overclocked this card yet but I do plan on using a much better HSF and ram sinks.
Anybody been down that path yet?
TIA, Darryl |

Thanks for the link, Ed! Based on the information there I'll make an educated guess that an 89Mhz AGP bus isn't going to be a problem for this card and order up a PIII 1Gig... the BX-133 arrives on Monday on the big brown truck and the link you provided had a nice review of the board as well... that rig should improve on my 12.8 WU's/day by just a bit... heh heh heh...

Hi DarkStar:
I've been running my Asus V7100/T at 89Mhz AGP bus speed since Day 1 (last Fall), on an Asus i440BX (P3B-F) mobo (CPU is P3-550 @ 733). That GeForce2 MX vidcard runs sweet, no glitches at all -ever. I do wish it had a health monitor chip though, so I could watch it with Asus' SmartDoctor II vidcard software.
My V7100/T is at stock spec core&mem timing. I did put a Thermaltake BlueOrb HS&Fan w/ Arctic Silver paste on the MX GPU to replace the stock HS. It never seemed hot (unlike my cookin' V6800DDR GF256), so the BlOrb is probably overkill but I neeeded something to spiff up that system -heheh. The BlOrb pins lined up exactly with the unused (2nd pair of) factory holes in the card.
BTW: reminder to use PC133 (or faster) SDRam in that new system.
12.8 Seti WUs per day, you say? Sheesh- my old P2-350@467 takes 14-15hrs/ WU.
Have fun with that DIY project!

if all else fails get on one of the auction sites and get yourself a PCI version of a 3dfx card . . the PCI bus won't be nearly as wigged out by the increase in speed |
