Intel chips can't be unlocked. The only option is to raise the FSB. |

The first step in overclocking is to stay away from Intel boards. I think that you're SOL............... |

Depends on what you are using it for, it's just not good for overclocking that's all. |

Bad luck, according to the tech sheet, those <beeep> at Intel did "forget" to add that option.
Two options:
1. Deal with it
2. Deal with the dealer to exchange the mobo against one which is more o/c friendly
Sorry. |

thx for ur help..
i doubt ill be able to exchange the mobo now cos its been more than 3 weeks...
i might get a new mobo at christmas, and use this one to make a new comp for my mum... shes using a K6 2 300mhz compaq laptop, which she says is good enough... if i can convince her to get a new comp i can upgrade, and get her to pay for it too |

I have a VIAtech VIA - VT8363
FSB = 2x104MHZ
I know i can set it in BIOS to 950, but it's not stable above 900 or so
What can I do to get this thing up to speed? I'd love to get a 25% OC out of it, and get it to 1ghz (stable).
Toast
Some info about my system if it'll help...
Win2000Pro
CPUMake=AMD Athlon
CPUSpeed= 850 @ 885
RAM=320 MB (All CAS3, 256MB PC100, 64MB PC133...but board is only PC100)(Yes i know i dont get the extra benefit of the 133...)
I have 512mb of CAS2 RAM waiting for me to pick up from FedEX... just gotta figure out where the hell they've got it hid.
Standard dialup connection USR 56k modem, pretty much daily online for an hour or 2 (or 12)
Anything else ya wanna know? Ask...
The trick is to sig while everyone else sags...
I'm back again.. after a looong break...

what mobo do you have toast
and what HSF
are you using Arctic Silver
does your bios allow voltage increase
does it allow FSB increase in 1mhz increments
have you considered "unlocking" your CPU
would it even do any goot to unlock your CPU (aka does your bios allow you to adjust the multiplier if you unlock the cpu)
do you know the batch number for your cpu ?
i'm sure i'll think of other things later but for now:
inquiring minds want to know |

WHEW!!! Brain's got plenty of questions, and i'm not sure i can answer them all... but here goes:
what mobo do you have toast:VIAtech VIA - VT8363
and what HSF:Stock I guess...
are you using Arctic Silver: No
does your bios allow voltage increase: Yes, to a degree ... it gives some options to choose from, but not many.
does it allow FSB increase in 1mhz increments:Yes, to a degree see above
have you considered "unlocking" your CPU: Considered, but havent done it yet
would it even do any good to unlock your CPU (aka does your bios allow you to adjust the multiplier if you unlock the cpu): I dunno
do you know the batch number for your cpu ?: No, I could take things apart to find the number if i need to...
i'm sure i'll think of other things later but for now: No problem
BTW, by new Kingston RAM just showed up, 512MB PC133 CL2 (very nice compared to what I have had...
